In my capacity as the president elect of the Romanian Society of Neurosurgery, on behalf of this community, of my collaborators and personally I would like to welcome you at this event.

We are honored and, at the same time, delighted to host the 45th Congress of the Romanian Society of Neurosurgery, in conjunction with the 24th Francophone Neurosurgery Course, in the city that prides itself on offering the scholar Samuel von Brukenthal to the European culture and that not long ago, in 2007, was the first Romanian city to be awarded the title of European capital of culture.

I am certain that the academic excellence of the papers will contribute to making this event memorable, as I am sure that we shall have the privilege of discovering here, in Sibiu, not only outstanding pages of history but also a remarkable tradition of the Romanian school of Neurosurgery.

On behalf of our community of neurosurgeons from Sibiu, which involves “Lucian Blaga” University of Sibiu / Faculty of Medicine and Emergency Clinical Hospital, I am pleased to welcome you to the 45 Congress of Neurosurgery here in Sibiu, in our picturesque city which was the European Capital of Culture in 2007. We are very grateful to the City of Sibiu for their remarkable support they have provided as a host and to the Congress Organizing Committee whose members have put together and engaging the program.

This congress is a well-established tradition at the RSN, devoted to showcasing a specific area of our work and learning from the practical experience of experts from Romanian and from other different countries. The Neurosurgery Congress gives us a great opportunity to join experts, teachers and practitioners around the most important debates on neurosurgery in today’s world that will draw a wide range of thoughts, research and practices from different countries to debate and re-appraise long held beliefs, attitudes and ways of exploring in neurosurgery.
Let us build a bridge together over nine centuries of Sibiu history and enforce another pillar of culture through this congress, which I strongly believe will be a cornerstone of the Romanian neurosurgical society and beyond with all your presentations.

I am grateful to you all for being part of this congress of neurosurgery and for joining us here in Sibiu, having the nice oportunity to discover one of the most beautiful cities in Romania, which offers breathtaking views around each of its many twists and turns.
